This British gas helmet is a faithful replica of original P or PH gas protection that was issued to British troops starting about mid 1915. One exception: the eye pieces are plastic rather than glass. The helmet was pulled over the head, the mouth piece inserted in the front of the mouth, and the helmet fabric tucked into the tunic neck. One inhaled though the "impregnated" fabric and exhaled through the mouth piece and external rubber flapper. The WPG pouch for the helmet is a much more faithful copy, compared to the originals, than similar products offered by other vendors. It should include a rubberized fabric insert to protect the helmet from moisture. (Perhaps this piece will be offered at a later date!) A great item that is seen everywhere in imid 1915-1918 mages of British troops.
